Blackface Episode Removed! Here’s Why

Of late, the debate on color-based discrimination has surfaced again. The civil society groups have been protesting on streets against this form of discrimination. Now the onus is on the entertainment industry to get rid of any content which may be degrading people with color.

Know What The Creator Said

So this is something which has started, and the best part is, the people from the cinematic world themselves have taken a proactive part in removing scenes or episodes which may indicate things towards discrimination. This isn’t something which should be practiced in the 21st century when the world has advanced a lot in terms of science, technology, and society in general.

The recent announcement by show creator Greg Daniels of “The Office” is another excellent step in the direction as they have deleted scenes from an episode titled “Dwight Christmas.” This is something that is going to bring a substantial change in the series as it will show their intent towards the discrimination. In a broad and detailed statement, he laid out the facts and the real intention of the series, which is to respect everyone irrespective of any other ground than the humanitarian one.

What’s The Official Statement

The detailed statement which he put out was centered around the idea of “The Office.” He elaborated on the nature of the sitcom where people have their differences, but they work together and have mutual respect. He also said that “The Office” depicts how a workplace looks like where the managers and assistant managers keep on irritating the employees, of course, in a satirical sense and not literally.

As per his official statement, he said, “The show employed satire to expose unacceptable behavior and deliver a message of inclusion. Today we cut a shot of an actor wearing blackface that was used to criticize a specific racist European practice. Blackface is unacceptable, and making the point so graphically is hurtful and wrong.

Other Major Updates

I am sorry for the pain that caused.” So this makes things clear that neither the series nor anyone associated with the series supports discrimination of any form. So this is something which is going to bring positive vibes among the fans, and it was indeed an excellent opportunity for “The Office” to show their respect to every community.

“The Office” is not the sole series that took quick action to show their intent and disassociated themselves from any sort of discrimination whatsoever. In a series of events, Netflix and Hulu took the initiative of showing their sense of responsibility. Hulu also took bold action by deleting three episodes from the series, “Scrub,” and Netflix did the same with “Little Britain.”

This is going to be a long journey, but this time, the proactive nature of action has made it evident that the 21st-century world will stand against discrimination. It is a broad message by the cinema industry and indeed a great decision to recognize our differences and cherish them. I hope better sense prevails and we can change a new world without any discrimination.
