Demi Lovato Gets Real about Mental Health Struggles, White Privileges & More


Demi Lovato has shared a personal letter she wrote about her year of growth. The singer opened on about many topics like her current mental and emotional health journey, life in quarantine, the Black Lives Matter movement, COVID-19, and racist violence. Lovato admitted that no one had had a perfect 2020, including her. The singer has experienced quite a few highs and lows this year. She revealed that she wants to leave the world a better place.

Besides, Lovato met her now-fiancé back in March and fell in love with him. However, she also experienced some lows and lost many of her near and dear ones. Demi further revealed that she wants to become a better person and inspire people.

She has had a long history of depression and mental illness and has made sure to be vocal about it. Moreover, her anxiety skyrocketed like many others because of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. However, Lovato believes that everyone’s opinion in mental health has changed during this time.

Moreover, Demi explained that people previously felt scared of the words anxiety and depression. However, the pandemic has shone a different spotlight on the words now. While she felt ashamed because of her mental illness before, that won’t be a case now. Not only that, but Lovato also had something to say about the BLM protests.

The Sober singer has asthma and hence couldn’t take part in any of the protests.

Meanwhile, Lovato has spent quarantine with her boyfriend turned fiancé Max Ehrich. The two met back in March at the beginning of quarantine and have come a long way since then.

After five months together, Ehrich secretly popped the big question to the singer. And without missing a beat, Demi said yes! Besides, the two are usually spotted on date nights and each other’s socials. Lovato’s music video I Love Me had a nomination at the recent MTV VMA’s. But the singer didn’t attend the awards event. 


It’s great to see Demi speaking out about the major social issues at the moment. The singer wants to continue to spread awareness about racial injustice and mental health. As she said, she wants to make sure she leaves the world in a better place than before.
